In this video you ll learn how to spot and replace a garage door extension spring.
How to tighten garage door extension springs.
You need to increase the tension in case the door can be lifted only with difficulty or if it closes faster than it should.
Once your garage door is secured remove the spring hook from the track hanger which will allow you to move the hook and adjust the spring s tension.
Change the length of the cable.
The other end is attached toa pulley through which the garage door cable is threaded.
The old spring is attached at two points.
Use two pair of vice grips or two c clamps to clamp the track below the roller.
Take note of the notches and screws that hold the torsion spring in place.
The way you adjust the springs depends on the type of issue.
Push the door up as far as you can to release the tension on the springs.
Secure the door in place.
To adjust your garage door s side mounted springs first open your door fully and secure it in place with a c clamp below the bottom roller.
One end is a fixedattachment to the garage door track or wood frame.
To keep the door from falling it must be clamped to hold it in place.
It should be placed on the left hand side of the torsion spring and placed away from the garage door s center.
Simply disconnectthese two attachments and reattach the new spring in the same way.
