Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door. Take your flat philips screwdriver and place it in the gap. If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door. Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware.

Some styles of door knob will have another thin slot that requires a small screwdriver to free the cover from the door.

With some pressure you can move the clip inside. Push this latch in and pull the handle off the door. After you ve unscrewed or loosened the latch tug on the door knob until it pops out of place or disengages from the base also known as the rose. Pull the rose cover off the knob body.
