I have shown this across many different videos but i wanted to create a complete step by.
How to start a metal roof square.
Install square to drip edge and run it out of parallel allow flashing to cover difference.
This is where you actually add the metal in the metal roof once you re back up on the roof start at the area with the longest square footage area.
Visualize a straight line leading from the top of the sloping roof to the eave.
For example if this particular roof was off a little bit even by just half an inch i would tilt our panel a little bit so that we ran square starting with the first panel.
Cut along here for the plumb cut.
Align the first metal roofing panel so that it overlaps the edging by 1 2 to 3 4 of an inch and is square to the roof line.
With a pencil trace the back edge of the tongue.
Cut angle on every sheet at the bottom.
Install the roofing screws vertically along each rib in the panel.
This will be the part of the roof with the longest straight line between peak and eave.
In this video i cover measuring the roof figuring the metal th.
Downside to this would be a non factory sealed cut exposed to the weather.
By severe i mean that on a roof that measures 17 feet from eave to ridge and a little over 29 ft wide i snapped my lines for starting out square using multiples of the 3 4 5 method and found out that the roof was basically a trapezoid being 5 inches out of square at the top left of the roof and approximately the same on the right hand lower.
This is part 1 of a 6 part video series explaining how i installed a metal roof on my house.
Be sure the larger edge is laid so that the small edge of the next panel will overlap it.
To make the plumb cut or the cut at which the rafter will sit on the ridge plate place a square on the upper end of the rafter with 8 inches on the tongue s outside edge and the 12 inches on the blade.
