Hardware details of the roof expander.
How to replace roof rafters.
Fit the rafter into place between the boards and screw through the sister boards into the rafter.
If you are replacing the entire rafter screw down into the wood through the top and bottom joists.
Cut out the section of the roofing.
Screw the new rafter into place.
Pull the old rafter end away from the roof eave.
Measure the dimensions of the old rafters beneath your roofing surface.
Use your tape measure to record the distance of both rafter legs.
First one end then the other of the stretching tool is bolted to the pre drilled holes in a pair of opposing rafters.
Hold the replacement against the end of the remaining rafter.
Make two lines on the side of the replacement rafter end and the end of the rafter 1 inch from the top and bottom edges.
Repeat the process for the joist beneath your old roof rafter.
Remove an area of the roof shingles from the edge of the roof to the upper line of the overhang using a 16 inch nail bar and hammer to pull the roofing nails.
If replacing part of the rafter attach one end of each sister board through the existing rafter.
