Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door.
How to remove a door handle that is stuck.
Remove the handles including the thru spindle.
Find the screws on the side of the door that secure the latch plate.
Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the hole.
Use a tool a flathead screwdriver will work to twist within the gap the thru spindle inserts into.
The door latch is not extended before rotating the knob.
The handle or knob must be jiggled to unstick the latch.
Take the handles knobs off of the door.
The knob will not turn to retract the stuck door latch.
More force is needed to turn the knob and unstick the latch.
Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware.
Our door handles are a little different but almost as easy to remove.
Insert a flat head screwdriver into the little slot on the side of the handle.
If your knob has a pinhole or small slot opening use a flathead screwdriver to push it inward.
Remove the latch mechanism if you re installing a new handle.

If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door.
