How to lube a door hinge.
Reinsert the pin and wipe off any excess.
To lubricate a door hinge start by using your fingers or a pair of long pliers to turn the hinge pin counterclockwise and remove it.
With the door closed address one hinge at a time so the door will stay supported.
Put a small dab of grease on the end and tap the pin back into place.
Spray a coating onto the pin and tap it back into the hinge.
Once the pin is loose pull it out lift up on the door handle to relieve pressure if the pin binds.
Spray some silicone spray on the joints in the two hinge leaves where they meet.
After you have taken care of all the hinges open the door.
This is very simple just put the lead on the hinges and move the door slightly in different directions.
Then wipe any dirt and grease off the pin and hinge plates with a paper towel or an old rag.
Move it back and forth several times to work the lubricant in.
Work the hinge by opening and closing the door over its full travel to spread the grease and then wipe off the excess.
Repeat the process if the squeak persists.
Coat the pin with a thin layer of grease.
Add a little more spray when you are about half way through the process.
Keep the door closed and work on only one hinge at a time.
To apply the grease extract the pin rub a light coat of grease on the entire length of it and then also put a small glob on the business end.
Lightly coat the hinge pin with petroleum jelly and dab a little in the top of the pin slot.
The procedure with grease is similar.
An excellent home way to lubricate the door is to use the lead of a soft pencil.
Next apply a thin coat of lubricant to the hinge pin and the hinge itself and put the pin back in the hinge.
