How to level sliding closet doors.
Today we are taking some standard interior doors and turning them into sliding closet doors.
Most sliding doors have a mechanism called an adjusting screw located at the bottom of the door ends.
Plug in a dehumidifier in the room to keep the humidity levels low and constant.
This is an easy diy for anyone.
If the side with the adjusting screw is too high causing it to bind at the top turn the screw counterclockwise.
Turning this screw raises or lowers the roller.
Raise the roller by turning the screw on the side of the door clockwise.
Use a tape measure to measure the distance between the floor and the top of your closet opening to get the height.
To attach them to your wall pre drill for 4 screws about every eight inches along the edge and place the screws loosely inside the holes.
Use a drill to unscrew any hinges or tracks from your closet opening and take off the old doors and set them aside.
Humidity in the air of your home can cause the wood in your door and door frame to swell and expand which can cause it to stick.
Regular vacuuming of the track will help keep the door sliding smoothly.
Remove the outside closet door by first sliding the door to the center of the track.
A screw in a hole on each side of the door is associated with each roller.
If you are unable to level the door by adjusting the rollers or the rollers look worn replace them.
When you re finished the opening to your closet should be free of any obstructions step 2 measure the height of your closet opening.
Do the same on the other door.
Then angle the door towards you and pull gently detaching the door from its top track.
Give the screw a clockwise turn and test to see whether the door slides easier.
This will raise the roller and that end of the door.
Step 1 remove any existing doors on your closet.
If it s too low use a flat pry bar to raise the door while you turn the adjusting screw clockwise.
Hold the soffit up to a header above your doorway make sure it s level then screw it into place.
Paint it the color of your choice.
